Counterfeit USPS Shipping Labels for $2? Too Good to Be True
Counterfeit USPS Shipping Labels for $2? Too Good to Be True
Someone online offers a USPS shipping label for about two dollars — any weight, any size, any destination. That deal is not a bargain. It is a red flag.
Counterfeit USPS shipping labels sold for a flat $2 are exactly the pattern named in a federal indictment tied to LabelsBank.com. According to a September 28, 2026 press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Faheem Akram with operating LabelsBank.com, an unauthorized site that allegedly sold counterfeit U.S. postage at a fixed rate — typically $2 per label — no matter what the package weighed or where it was going. An indictment is an accusation. The Justice Department's own release says every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
Along the US-2 corridor — Monroe, Sultan, Gold Bar, Snohomish — people already ask the counter about "cheap labels" they saw online. This post sticks to the official case facts, what USPS says happens to mail with fake postage, and how to buy real labels without inventing prices or legal advice.
What the Justice Department alleges
Stick to the primary sources. The Southern District of Florida press release and a matching U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) announcement are the authorities for this case.
According to those releases:
- Who is charged: Faheem Akram, 33, of Khanewal, Pakistan.
- What the site allegedly did: LabelsBank.com allegedly sold counterfeit U.S. postage labels. The site was not authorized to sell USPS products or services.
- The price pattern: a fixed rate — typically $2 per label — regardless of weight, size, or destination. The U.S. Attorney called that cut-rate "any weight" offer the heart of the alleged scheme.
- Scale alleged: more than 5.1 million counterfeit shipping labels purchased by over 5,200 individuals (the DOJ release; USPIS says more than 5,000 customers).
- Alleged USPS losses: more than $126 million.
- Website: in conjunction with the indictment, a court order authorized seizure and shutdown of the domain.
- Charges listed: one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and to make and sell counterfeit postage stamps; five counts of making and selling counterfeit postage stamp labels; and four counts of wire fraud (ten counts total).
- Court: Southern District of Florida; related case number cited in the DOJ release is 26-cr-60249.
We are not a court. We will not call anyone guilty. We will not invent buyer charges — the official releases charge the alleged operator of the site, not the customers who bought labels.
Why a flat $2 label should stop you cold
Legitimate USPS postage changes with weight, size, distance, and service. A seller who promises one tiny price for every carton is skipping the part where real postage is calculated.
That is the neighbor takeaway:
- Any-weight, any-destination postage for pocket change is not how USPS pricing works.
- Unauthorized sites are not "discount Click-N-Ship." The DOJ release states LabelsBank.com was not authorized to sell USPS products.
- Cheap fake postage is not a victimless tip. The indictment alleges more than $126 million in losses to a self-funded Postal Service that pays for the trucks, plants, and carriers your real mail needs.
If a screenshot of a $2 "Priority" label feels too good to be true, treat it that way. Ask a staffed counter before you tape it on.
What USPS says happens to mail with counterfeit postage
Separate two problems that get mashed together in conversation:
| Situation | What official sources describe | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Package with counterfeit postage | USPS revised Domestic Mail Manual rules so items found with counterfeit postage are treated as abandoned and may be disposed of at Postal Service discretion — not returned to the sender (USPS newsroom, Feb. 15, 2023; DMM 604.8.4 updates in the Postal Bulletin) | Do not buy or use unauthorized labels. If you already shipped, ask the counter or USPS with your tracking — do not invent a fix from a blog |
| Real label that fails payment verification / looks "unpaid" | A different problem: paid labels can still look unpaid when payment files lag or intercept systems misfire — see our USPS unpaid postage 2026 guide | Keep proof of payment; prefer a staffed drop-off for new marketplace labels |
| Cold text demanding a "customs fee" or "unpaid postage" pay link | Usually phishing, not a real postage bill — see our customs fee text scam guide | Do not click; check the seller order page |
For counterfeit postage specifically, the Postal Service's public notice is blunt: those items can be treated as abandoned and disposed of. That is stronger than a simple postage-due sticker. Do not count on a friendly return.
Shortpaid or unpaid mail (a different DMM path) can involve postage due, return, or other corrective steps. Counterfeit indicia are not the same as an honest underpayment. If your tracking looks wrong and you are not sure which bucket you are in, bring the receipt to a staffed counter and ask — we will not invent a status code for you.
How this differs from other "postage" posts on our site
We already cover related spokes. This article stays on fake labels sold online as postage:
- USPS package rejected unpaid postage (2026) — OIG audit on counterfeit volume and honest labels wrongly intercepted. That is the crackdown / verification spoke.
- Customs fee text scam — phishing SMS that asks you to pay a fake fee. Different from buying a fake outbound label.
- FedEx driver text scam — porch "hold for a fee" texts. Different carrier story.
LabelsBank-style offers sit on the seller-of-fake-postage spoke: someone sells you a label that looks official and is not authorized. Keep the spoke distinct so search results do not mash every postage word into one article.
Practical checklist before you buy or print a label
Work this list in order. Skipping ahead is how cartons vanish.
- Buy postage only from USPS or an authorized channel — USPS.com / Click-N-Ship, a retail counter, or a known marketplace checkout that generates the label as part of the sale. Unauthorized "any weight for $2" sites are the red flag the DOJ release describes.
- Match weight and service to the label. A two-dollar sticker that ignores the scale is not a USPS rate.
- Keep the receipt or order confirmation with the tracking number.
- Do not cover the barcode with glare, a second label, or a wrinkled pouch.
- Prefer a staffed handoff for a brand-new label — someone can catch an obvious mismatch before the carton leaves the building.
- Never reuse or photocopy a paid label onto a second carton.
- If a deal only exists as a Discord screenshot or a random website, walk away. Ask the counter instead.
None of that replaces USPS rules. It is how you stay out of the abandoned-mail bucket.

FAQ
Is LabelsBank.com still selling labels?
According to the Justice Department and USPIS, a court order authorized seizure and shutdown of the website in conjunction with the indictment. Treat any look-alike "cheap USPS label" site the same way: unauthorized flat-rate postage is a red flag, whether or not the domain name matches.
Were people who bought the labels charged?
The official DOJ and USPIS releases describe charges against the alleged operator of the site. They do not say buyers were charged. We will not invent buyer charges. An indictment is still only an accusation against the person charged.
If I already used a cheap online label, will my package come back?
For counterfeit postage, USPS public rules say items can be treated as abandoned and disposed of — not returned (USPS newsroom). Outcomes still depend on what the network actually found and when. Bring tracking and any receipt to a staffed counter or official USPS channel and ask. Do not rely on a blog to predict your carton.
How is this different from a marketplace label that suddenly says "unpaid"?
A marketplace label you paid for through a normal checkout can still fail verification when payment files and scans disagree. That is covered in our unpaid postage 2026 post. A $2 any-weight label from an unauthorized site is a different problem: the postage itself may never have been valid.
Can The Mail Station "clear" a fake label with USPS?
No. We help with legitimate labels, packing, and staffed drop-off. We do not override Postal Inspection Service or USPS fraud systems, and we do not certify unauthorized postage.
