What File and Paper to Bring to Print Flyers?
What File and Paper to Bring to Print Flyers?
Yard sale Saturday. Lost dog poster. School bake sale. You need a short stack of flyers, not a thousand-piece marketing order shipped from another state.
Bring a clear file and a simple paper choice. A PDF is the easiest file for us to print cleanly. A photo, Word doc, or JPG works too. Get it to us from your phone, by email, or on a USB drive. At the counter, say letter size or half-sheet, and color or black-and-white. That's the whole prep list for most community flyers. For the full menu of what we print, see our printing services page — flyers and brochures are on it.
We see this job all the time along Old Owen Road: a parent with Canva on their phone, a neighbor with a lost-pet photo in Texts, a coach with a Word doc from last season. You don't need a home printer. You need the file in a form we can open, and a clear call on size and color.
The short answer: file first, then paper
| What you're deciding | What usually works | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| File type | PDF when you can; JPG/PNG or Word if that's what you have | PDFs keep layout and fonts steadier than a screenshot |
| How you bring it | Upload at /print/, email, USB, or open it on your phone | Same paths we use for everyday documents |
| Paper size | Letter (8.5 × 11 in) or a half-sheet cut from letter | Fits most bulletin boards, car windows, and handouts |
| Color | Color for photos and pet posters; black-and-white for simple text | Color costs more per page — ask the counter for today's price |
| How many | The short stack you need for this event | Tell us the count when you arrive; we don't set a "minimum order" spiel |
Letter size here means standard U.S. letter paper. Half-sheet means we print on letter and cut it for you when that fits the job. We are not quoting paper brands, weights, or price lists on this page — ask at the counter so you get today's options.
What file should you bring?
Best case: a PDF of the finished flyer. Export or "Save as PDF" from Canva, Google Docs, Word, or whatever you used. PDFs travel well and usually print closer to what you see on screen than a phone screenshot does.
Also fine:
- JPG or PNG of a finished design (common when the flyer started as a phone photo layout)
- Word (DOC or DOCX) if the flyer is mostly text and you still need a last tweak before print
- A photo of a hand-drawn draft or a printed flyer you want copied — useful when someone made it on paper first
Screenshots are a last resort. Cropped phone screenshots often cut off edges, shrink type, and look soft when enlarged. If the real file still exists in Canva or email, open that and export a PDF instead.
Our walk-in upload page accepts PDF, JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, DOC, and DOCX, up to 5 MB per file and 10 files per upload, per our /print/ page. If the file is bigger than that, email it or bring it on a USB drive.
Quick file checks before you leave home (or the parking lot)
- The flyer opens on your phone or laptop and shows the final wording (date, time, address, phone).
- Contact info is large enough to read from a few feet away — yard-sale and lost-pet flyers get glanced at from a car.
- You've spelled the street, the date, and the phone number once more. We print what you send.
- If the design goes all the way to the edge of the page, say so at the counter. Edge-to-edge jobs sometimes need a little extra image past the trim line so you don't get a thin white border after cutting. That's ordinary print practice; we'll look at your file with you.
How to get the file to the counter
You have the same options we cover in depth in Print From Your Phone Near Me?. For flyers, here's the short version:
- Upload at /print/. Pick the file, add your name and phone number, and you'll get a pickup code. That code is texted to the phone number that sent the request — the same phone you enter on the upload form. Show the code at the counter.
- Email the file to print@mailstationmonroe.com. Attach the file itself — not a private Drive or iCloud link we can't open.
- Bring a USB or flash drive. Know the file name and folder before you hand it over.
- Open it on your phone at the counter if you're stuck. We'll help you get it onto the printer.
- Text a photo to (360) 282-0092 only when the flyer is a photo (or a photo of a paper draft). Our print page notes that PDFs and documents usually can't go by text because carriers block them.
No appointment needed for everyday flyer runs. Walk in during staffed hours: Mon–Fri 9 AM–6 PM · Sat 9 AM–2 PM · Sun closed.
What paper should you ask for?
People search "what paper to print flyers on" because home printers and online shops throw a dozen stock names at you. At a walk-in counter the decision is simpler.
Start with size and sides:
- Letter, one-sided — the default for yard sales, lost pets, and church potlucks. Easy to tape to a board or stick under a wiper (where that's allowed).
- Letter, two-sided — when you have a map, schedule, or extra details on the back.
- Half-sheet — when you want more copies from fewer sheets, or a smaller handout for backpacks and bulletin-board corners.
Then color:
- Color when there's a photo (lost pet), a school logo, or a bright sale headline you want to pop.
- Black-and-white when the flyer is mostly text and you need a bigger stack for the same budget.
What we won't list here: paper weight numbers, brand names, or a price-per-page chart. Those change, and guessing them in a blog post helps nobody. Stand at the counter, tell us the event, and we'll show you what we have in stock for that job. Our printing services page is the right place for the broader list of flyer and brochure work we do.
If you only need a handful of copies of a paper original you already have, that's a copies job — see Need Copies Made in Monroe?.
Yard sale, lost pet, school or church event: what to put on the flyer
A short-run flyer fails when the reader can't act. Put the action at the top.
Yard sale or garage sale
- Date and start time (and end time if you have one)
- Address that's easy to find from US-2 or the main roads people actually use
- A line on cash/Venmo if you care
- One photo of the "hero" items beats a wall of tiny thumbnails
Lost pet
- Clear photo of the pet (not a screenshot of a screenshot)
- Name, breed or mix if known, collar/color, last seen spot and time
- Your phone number in large type
- "Please text with location" often works better than "call only"
School, church, or club event
- Event name, date, time, doors/open time
- Location and parking note if the building is easy to miss
- Who to contact with questions
- Rain plan if it's outdoors
Write for someone scanning the flyer while their kid pulls them toward the snack table. Big headline. Few words. One phone number that works.
Color vs black-and-white (and when "good enough" wins)
Color is great for pets and photo-heavy sales. Black-and-white is often the smart call for text-heavy announcements when you need coverage more than polish — neighborhood poles, multiple boards, a stack for every classroom.
Honest counter advice: if the deadline is tonight and the file is already simple text, print the clear version you have instead of rebuilding the design in the parking lot. A readable black-and-white flyer on the board beats a perfect color file that never leaves your phone.
For bigger graphics — tabloid posters, banners, wide prints — that's a different job. See How Big Can You Print a Poster in Monroe?. Business marketing kits (cards, menus, storefront stacks) live in What Should a Monroe Small Business Print Locally?. This page is the community short-run: yard sales, lost pets, school nights, club fundraisers.
Walk-in flyers vs ordering a thousand online
Online printers win when you need bulk and can wait for a box. Walk-in counters win when you need a short stack for a local event and you already have the file on your phone.
We're not ranking other Monroe print shops. Different shops fit different jobs. If you're here because you searched "where can I print flyers near me" or "flyer printing near me open now," the practical test is simple: can you walk in with a file and leave with the sheets you need for this weekend's event? That's the job we set up our counter for. Browse what's on offer on printing services, then bring the file.

Yes. Upload at /print/, email the file, text a photo when it's truly a photo, or open the file at the counter. Details are in Print From Your Phone Near Me?.
Do you print flyers in color?
Yes. Color and black-and-white are both normal flyer jobs. Say which pages need color if only the front does.
