USPS Mail to Argentina Suspended Oct 23-Nov 11: What to Do

USPS Mail to Argentina Suspended Oct 23-Nov 11: What to Do

USPS mail to Argentina is suspended for almost three weeks. If you have papers or a package headed there, here's what USPS actually said and what you can do instead.

The short answer: USPS says that from October 23 through November 11, 2026, it will suspend international mail acceptance to Argentina because of construction at the Buenos Aires airport. USPS asks customers not to mail six services to Argentina during that window: Commercial ePacket, Priority Mail International, First-Class Package International Service, International Priority Airmail (IPA) Packets, IPA M-bags, and Airmail M-bags (USPS PostalPro notice, Oct 21, 2026, checked on Oct 22, 2026). Items of those types that get mailed during the window will be returned to the sender, and USPS says you're entitled to a full postage refund. If your papers can't wait until mid-November, we ship FedEx International and DHL Express from the same international shipping counter in Monroe, WA.

A neighbor in Sultan has a signed document her brother in Córdoba needs before the end of the month. Last year she'd have dropped it in a Priority Mail International envelope and been done. This year, for the next few weeks, that envelope would come right back to her.

That's the situation for anyone mailing to Argentina right now. Here's the whole picture, using only what USPS has published.

What changed

On October 21, 2026, USPS posted an industry alert titled "Suspension of Mail Service to Argentina - Effective October 23, 2026 - November 11, 2026" (USPS PostalPro, checked on Oct 22, 2026). The notice says:

  • Dates: "Effective October 23, 2026, through November 11, 2026."
  • Reason: "construction at the Buenos Aires Airport."
  • What USPS is doing: it "will suspend international mail acceptance to Argentina."

USPS asks customers to "refrain from mailing the following services to Argentina" during that period:

Service USPS namedWho usually uses it
Commercial ePacket (CeP)Online sellers
Priority Mail International (PMI)Retail customers and sellers
First-Class Package International Service (FCPIS)Small packages
International Priority Airmail (IPA) PacketsBulk business mailers
International Priority Airmail (IPA) M-bagsBulk business mailers
Airmail M-bagsSacks of printed matter to one address

The notice also says that, unless otherwise noted, suspensions to a country "do not affect delivery of military and diplomatic mail."

One thing to know: the regular USPS country page for Argentina in the International Mail Manual did not show the suspension yet when we checked it on Oct 22, 2026 (USPS IMM: Argentina). The PostalPro notice is the newer source, so go by that.

What if I already mailed something?

USPS is specific about items that go into the mail during the window. For CeP, PMI, FCPIS, IPA Packets, IPA M-bags and Airmail M-bags "entered 10/23/26 - 11/11/26," USPS says it will endorse them "Mail Service Suspended — Return to Sender" and send them back (USPS PostalPro notice).

On money, the notice says: "According to DMM 604.9.2.3, customers are entitled to a full refund of their postage costs when service to the country of destination is suspended."

Here's what we'd do:

  1. Find your receipt and tracking number. You'll want both if the item comes back.
  2. Watch the tracking. The notice doesn't say what happens to items mailed before October 23, so don't assume either way. Check tracking every few days.
  3. If it comes back marked "Mail Service Suspended — Return to Sender," ask USPS about the postage refund. Bring the item and your receipt.
  4. If the papers are time-sensitive, don't wait for the return. Get copies or a new original moving another way.

Wait, or use another carrier?

It depends on what you're sending and how soon it has to get there.

Waiting can make sense when:

  • It's a gift, a card, or anything without a deadline.
  • You're an online seller and your buyer is fine with a short delay.
  • You can hold it until USPS says service is back after November 11.

Another carrier makes sense when:

  • It's a signed original, a court or immigration paper, or anything with a due date.
  • Someone in Argentina is waiting on it before mid-November.
  • You need tracking from Monroe all the way to the door.

We checked the FedEx and DHL service alert pages for Argentina on Oct 22, 2026. Neither listed a suspension for Argentina as of that date (FedEx Argentina service alerts, DHL Express US important information). That can change, so we check again when you bring the envelope in.

If you're not sure whether your USPS service is one of the six on the list, ask the clerk before you pay, or check the USPS notice yourself.

Sending papers to Argentina: the basics

Whichever carrier you pick, a few things make the trip smoother:

  • Keep it paper-only. A documents envelope has less paperwork than a package. A small gift tucked in can turn it into goods.
  • Get the full address. Name, street and number, city, province, and postal code, plus the receiver's phone and email.
  • For goods, get the CUIT. USPS's Argentina page asks for the receiver's tax ID (CUIT) on items that contain goods (USPS IMM: Argentina).
  • Keep a copy. Scan every page you can't replace before it leaves.

More carrier choices under one roof

That's why we keep more than one carrier at our counter on Old Owen Road. When one option is paused, you don't have to start over somewhere else. We can look at FedEx and DHL for the same envelope, side by side, and you pick.

We won't post a price or a delivery day here. Both change by weight, service and the day you ship. We'll pull the live quote at the counter so you see real numbers.

We'll update this page

USPS says the suspension runs through November 11, 2026. We'll check USPS again on or before November 12 and add a dated note at the top saying whether service is back or the dates changed.
