Missed USPS? Last Day to Ship FedEx for Christmas 2026
One calendar for USPS and FedEx, Dec 15 to Dec 24, so you know which box can still make it.
The last day to ship FedEx for Christmas 2026 is Wednesday, December 23 for FedEx overnight services and Tuesday, December 22 for FedEx 2Day, according to the FedEx 2026 peak schedule. USPS closes sooner: its recommended last day is Thursday, December 17 for Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail, Friday, December 18 for Priority Mail, and Saturday, December 19 for Priority Mail Express. Missed a USPS date? FedEx still has a few days left.
Every December somebody comes to our counter on the 21st holding a box for a niece in Ohio. They've just read that the USPS date passed and they figure they're out of luck. Most of the time they aren't. The gift can still make it. It just has to go a faster way. The calendar below shows what's still possible on each day.
The short answer: Dec 17 to Dec 23, depending on how you ship
Here's every domestic last day from the two official schedules, in one table. These are for addresses in the lower 48 states.

FedEx dates are from the FedEx 2026 Peak Last Day to Ship schedule, checked on 2026-10-23. USPS dates are recommended dates from the USPS holiday shipping page and its September 22, 2026 news release, checked on 2026-10-23.
Two small differences matter here. FedEx counts back from delivery by December 24. USPS counts back from delivery before December 25. And USPS calls its dates "recommended." USPS says actual delivery can vary with where the box starts, where it's going, and what time it's accepted. FedEx says its dates can change and that its Service Guide controls.
What changed and when, day by day
Here's the same list as a countdown. If you're reading this on one of these days, look for your date and see what's still open.
Tuesday, December 15. FedEx Ground Economy closes. That's the slowest FedEx option, and it's the first door to shut. Final per FedEx 2026 schedule, checked on 2026-10-23.
Thursday, December 17. USPS Ground Advantage and First-Class Mail close for the lower 48. FedEx Ground also closes for any address that's a 5-day ground trip away. USPS recommended date and FedEx schedule, both checked on 2026-10-23.
Friday, December 18. USPS Priority Mail closes. FedEx Ground closes for 4-day ground addresses. USPS recommended date and FedEx schedule, checked on 2026-10-23.
Saturday, December 19. USPS Priority Mail Express is the last USPS option for the lower 48. Dec 19 is a Saturday, so check weekend hours before you count on a counter being open. Ours are at the bottom. USPS recommended date, checked on 2026-10-23.
Monday, December 21. This is the day people start to panic, and FedEx still has plenty open: Express Saver, plus Ground for addresses 3 days away. FedEx schedule, checked on 2026-10-23.
Tuesday, December 22. FedEx 2Day and 2Day A.M. close. Ground still works for addresses 2 days away. FedEx schedule, checked on 2026-10-23.
Wednesday, December 23. FedEx First Overnight, Priority Overnight and Standard Overnight close. This is the realistic last day for most gifts. Ground also works if the address is a 1-day trip. FedEx schedule, checked on 2026-10-23.
Thursday, December 24. Only FedEx SameDay is left. That's a special FedEx service, not a normal box drop. Ask us first if you're hoping to use it, because we'd rather tell you no on the phone than at the counter. FedEx schedule, checked on 2026-10-23.

What about UPS?
UPS hasn't finalized its 2026 last-ship dates yet. When we checked on October 23, 2026, its 2026 holiday schedule file was still labeled "update pending," and its holiday shipping page only pointed people to its time-in-transit tool. We'll add UPS here once its dates are final. One more thing: we don't take UPS drop-offs at our counter. We handle FedEx, USPS and DHL.
How to read the FedEx Ground rows
FedEx Ground doesn't have one last day. It has five, and which one you get depends on how many business days your box needs to reach the address.
- 1-day transit: last day Wed, Dec 23
- 2-day transit: last day Tue, Dec 22
- 3-day transit: last day Mon, Dec 21
- 4-day transit: last day Fri, Dec 18
- 5-day transit: last day Thu, Dec 17
From Monroe, a box headed to Spokane takes far fewer ground days than one headed to Florida. FedEx says ground transit runs 1 to 5 business days in the contiguous U.S. You can check the exact number for a ZIP code on FedEx's own transit tool, or we can look it up at the counter.
FedEx's footnote also says these Ground dates assume the box goes out with a regular scheduled pickup or is dropped off at a staffed FedEx location. If you drop a box in an unstaffed spot late in the day, it might not leave until the next business day. That can cost you a whole day in December.
Leaving the lower 48? Different dates apply
The dates above are for the contiguous U.S. A few places run on their own schedule.
Alaska and Hawaii. USPS Priority Mail (Dec 18) and Priority Mail Express (Dec 19) carry the same recommended dates as the lower 48. USPS Ground Advantage doesn't get a calendar date this year. USPS lists it as a 10-day-or-longer service and sends people to its service commitments tool to check a specific ZIP. FedEx says Ground transit to and from Alaska and Hawaii runs 3 to 7 business days. We explain why these places cost more and take longer in why shipping to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico costs more.
Puerto Rico. FedEx lists Puerto Rico on its international page: International Next Flight, First and Priority by Wed, Dec 23, and International Economy by Tue, Dec 22. USPS gives Puerto Rico the same Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express dates as the lower 48, and the same 10-day-or-longer note for Ground Advantage.
Canada and Mexico. FedEx's last days for Canada are Dec 23 for International Next Flight, First and Priority, and Dec 21 for International Economy. For Mexico, the dates are Dec 22 for International Next Flight, First and Priority, and Dec 21 for Economy. FedEx says these dates don't include time for customs clearance, so a box that sits in customs can still miss.
Other countries. USPS's last day for Priority Mail International and First-Class Package International is Wednesday, December 9, and Priority Mail Express International is Wednesday, December 16. Late-December checklist
- Find your date in the table above and circle the one that matches the service you want.
- Check the ground days to the address if you're using FedEx Ground.
- Use a sturdy box with good padding. December trucks are packed, and boxes get stacked.
- Put a card with the recipient's address and phone number inside the box, too.
- Write the full address with apartment or unit number. A missing unit can cost you the delivery.
- Keep your receipt and tracking number until the gift is opened.
- Ship earlier than the last day if you can. These dates are the edge, not a target.

Yes, with FedEx. December 21 is the last day for FedEx Express Saver and for FedEx Ground to addresses 3 business days away. FedEx 2Day goes until December 22 and overnight until December 23.
When will UPS post its 2026 Christmas dates?

Do the FedEx dates include Saturday or Christmas Eve delivery?
The FedEx schedule is built around delivery by December 24. Whether a specific address gets a weekend or Christmas Eve delivery depends on the service and the location, so check at the counter before you count on it.
